He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; he gives names to all of them. Our Lord is great, vast in power; his understanding is infinite. Psalms 147:3-5 CSB

Our God is infinite. He has no limits, no boundaries. God created everything. He counts and knows each star by name. And He knows and cares for each one of us, His creations made in His image. He cares when we are brokenhearted and He “bandages” our wounds. We have all been brokenhearted or just plain broken at times in our lives. God understands and our God is compassionate.
My dad was in his early 60’s when he was diagnosed with cancer. He underwent the normal treatments, chemo, radiation, and surgery. But within a couple of years the cancer returned with a vengeance, and he knew, we all knew, he wasn’t going to beat it. That alone is heartbreaking, he was too young to die.
But for me, the most heartbreaking part of it was that I was 8 months pregnant with our son when my dad passed. And my son would never meet or get to know his grandfather. Even now, almost 30 years later, it’s still hard to write these words.
But God, over time, healed my heart and bandaged my wounds in a way I never expected. My son looks just like my dad!
My son came home from school one day and said that a lot of his friends asked if he was adopted. I assured him that he wasn’t, after all, I was there. Everyone in our family has dark hair, my son’s hair is blonde like my dad. Neither my husband nor I are very tall, my son is well over six foot, like my dad. My son has a laid back attitude, body build and sense of humor, like my dad.
So, my son did get to know his grandfather in a way.
When we take our broken hearts to God, He heals our hearts and bandages our wounded soul. God takes our brokenness and makes us whole again.
A favorite song is Broken & Beautiful, sung by Mark Schultz. My favorite line is:
“Cause there’s nothing more beautiful to God
Than when his sons and daughters come
Broken”
We are all brokenhearted or broken at times. This week, take your brokenness to God who is compassionate and knows you by name. Let Him heal you and bandage your wounds.
I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we look to our infinite God to mend our broken hearts and broken lives and bandage our wounds.
Blessings and healing as His sons and daughters!
