“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”” John 8:12 (NKJV)
I was born in Indiana, went to school in Pennsylvania, attended college in South Carolina, lived and raised a family in North Carolina, and have recently retired to Virginia! And in all the places I’ve been, I have always enjoyed being outdoors; hiking, camping, canoeing, horseback riding, rafting, and trail riding with ATVs!
I married my high school sweetheart, Mark, after both of us had graduated from Clemson University. Go Tigers! I’ve always loved working with kids and became a teacher. I began my teaching career in a self-contained BEH (Behaviorally/Emotionally Handicapped) class. It was a difficult beginning, but became a truly awesome experience! After several years, I was offered a first grade classroom near my home, which I also loved!
I became a stay-at-home mom when my children were born and will never regret that time. My daughter now lives in New York City and my son is in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The discipline lessons learned with God’s help in the BEH class helped me with my own children. The kids complained to me, when they were older, that they never stood a chance at misbehaving!!
Mark and I also love to travel. We began our family travels when the kids were still young. We went to destinations in the US; the beach, the mountains, Patriot’s Point at Charleston, Disney World, Mt. Rushmore (I blame this trip for my son choosing to live in South Dakota!). Then as the kids got a little older, we discovered international destinations; countries in Africa, Central and South America, Europe, and Israel.
We still travel, but now are exploring homesteading “lite”! I am enjoying growing our own vegetables and fruits! I am also experimenting with canning and dehydrating. We have an herb garden and dehydrate our own spices. I have tried canning pickles, salsa, and zucchini in Italian sauce in addition to the regular fare. I choose not mention the unsuccessful attempts!
I began my walk with the Lord when I was fourteen. And His light has shown me the way and directed my path through life. I am excited to begin the next journey as He leads me!!
