“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 NIV
“While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:5 NIV

Do you remember what God’s first creation was on the very first day of the world? Right! God created light. Into the black nothingness, God spoke, “Let there be light,” and the light cut through the darkness and pushed it back. Light defined the first day.
That created light is necessary for life. Without light there would be no green plants, no fruits or vegetables. I love apples. What is your favorite plant food? Without plants there would be no animals that eat plants to live. And without the plant eaters, there would be no animals that eat them to live. And there would be no humans. There would be no life. Light is life in God’s created world.
The Bible tells us that God is light. Not only did God create light but He is light. And just like the created light is life, so our God is the light of our life. His love shines on us. His Word lights our path. His presence pushes out the darkness and the fears. His grace surrounds us with brilliant forgiveness. His protection gleams around us.
In the verses above, Jesus is telling us that He is light and that each of us need to let our light shine before others. What does that mean? What is your light? Your light is the reflection of God’s light in you!
