“Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” Psalms 36:5-7
A sunlit ridge reflecting in the pond. Thank You, God, for the beauty of Your creation!
These verses from Psalms were actually written as a song for the Lord by King David (remember David and Goliath). David wrote many of the Psalms (or songs) in the Bible to tell about how wonderful God is. I love the word pictures in these verses.
God’s love is so big it reaches to the heavens.
God’s faithfulness to us reaches to the skies.
God’s righteousness (or goodness) is like a high mountain.
God’s justice is like the deep of the ocean.
God’s never-failing love covers and keeps us safe like a bird’s out-stretched wings.
This is the month that we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a time when we can thank God for all that He has done for us. We thank Him for all the ways He has blessed us! Some of our big blessings might be our mom and dad, our sisters and brothers, our friends, or our home.
But this week (and please keep going until Thanksgiving) I want you to start looking for small ways that God’s love touches your life each day. Maybe today you saw a great sunrise while you were waiting for the bus and it made you smile. “Wow, thank You, God!” Maybe you got to check out your favorite book at the library. “Yay! I love this animal book! Thanks, God!” Maybe you didn’t get called on when you weren’t sure of the answer in class. “Whew, thanks, Lord!”
Decide how you want to keep track of all the blessings that God’s love brings to you each day.
A journal or notebook – try to write one each day.
A family sharing time at dinner – each person tells one blessing for each day.
A blessing jar or box – write one each day on a strip of paper or small note pad and drop it in.
A calendar or marker board – write one for each day.
When Thanksgiving comes, you should have lots of blessings and ways that God’s love has touched your life. Share them, if you haven’t already, and remember to thank God always for His unfailing love and the protection from His out-stretched wings. Thank you, God, for everything.
Blessings and God’s love over every part of your life!
