I love the visual imagery of these verses from Psalms. David is singing to the Lord, comparing each attribute of God to a part of His glorious creation. But I think my favorite part is imagining that God’s love covers, protects, and provides a safe place for us under the shadow of His “wings”. God’s love is never ending. It’s not based on our performance, but solely on His unfailing love which is always with us. God’s love for us is priceless because it is given freely.

As we enter this season of thanksgiving, I would like us to focus on all of the blessings that the Lord’s everlasting love, His unfailing love, has provided for each of us.  I have my journal (actually an old notebook that was left over from the kids’ school days!). I would like to propose that we begin to actually list our blessings.

We may have biggies like family and kids and genuine friends; comfortable homes and steady jobs and sustenance. But do we daily look for the small things that are blessings from God, as His constant love surrounds us? You know me well enough to know that I love a beautiful sunrise or vibrant sunset. I consider it a gift, a blessing from the Lord.

Let’s list out our biggies first. But then, each day, search carefully for that small and perhaps often overlooked blessing of God’s love. Sometimes it might just be a safe day of running errands, finding that perfect gift for someone for Christmas, or even that moment of peace and joy as we turn our worries over to the Lord. It might even be a blocked path that (only later) we realize was God’s love guiding us away from our choice and into His will.

This week let’s all begin our “God’s Everlasting Love” journals (or note cards, or strips of paper, or even our refrigerator marker boards). Let’s detail all the ways God’s unfailing love surrounds, protects, comforts, and blesses! Thankfulness and awareness of God’s steadfast love in our daily lives can and will bring joy!
