“Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:16-17 NIV
I am thankful for the beautiful colors and cool, crisp air of a fall day.
Last week we talked about God’s everlasting love for each of us and I asked you to try to look each day for a blessing that you received from God. And, in this Thanksgiving season, to thank God for each blessing you found!
Are you keeping track of all the blessings that God gives to you each day? I am. In my journal, a few of my blessings are: I am thankful for my husband, a phone call from my daughter, my son moving closer to home, friends, a beautiful sunrise, a full moon and stars on a clear night, safe travel, a comfortable home, fall leaves blowing in the wind and you!
This week we are going to look at the grace of God. God’s grace is His pleasant or favorable feelings and unending love for each of us. Grace means that we don’t have to work for it, or earn it, or be “good enough” to get it. God gifts it to us because of His everlasting love for us. It is a gift from God.
In the verse above John the Baptist is describing Jesus as the grace and truth of God. John the Baptist says that in the Old Testament grace (God’s favor) was given through the law (the 10 commandments) but in the New Testament (and also for us!) grace is given through Jesus, God’s Son. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV
We receive God’s grace when we believe, have faith in, and accept Jesus, His Son, as our savior. Thank You, God, for Jesus.
This week I want you to continue to look for ways that God’s love and grace touches your life each day. Does God’s grace let you love someone (not so likeable) like Jesus did? Does God’s grace let you tell someone about Jesus? Does God’s grace let you pray for a friend? When Thanksgiving comes, you will have lots of ways that God’s love and grace has blessed you. Don’t forget to share!
Blessings and grace to you as you continue to thank God for everything!
Two more of my blessings!
