Glorify Our God!

“For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” I Corinthians 6:20 NKJV

A beautiful pastel sunrise and a cloud-lit sunset reflect the glory of God!

We, men and women, are created in God’s image. We cannot make it on our own, we are sinful. We are offered salvation; the “price” was the sacrificial crucifixion of God’s Son, Jesus. When we accept this gift of grace, we are totally His, body and soul.

Now that we belong to God, how do we glorify Him? To glorify God means to acknowledge His awesomeness and to give Him honor, praise and worship. Everything Jesus did, giving sight to the blind, raising the dead, healing the sick, teaching, and even dying on the cross were to glorify God, His Father.  In all that we do, work, family, service and life, we are to glorify our God. This is a challenging quest for each of us.

I have to admit that I sometimes question my own motivations. Am I writing this blog for the glory of God alone or am I hoping for more “likes” and accolades for myself? Am I writing my children’s story on creation to share God and glorify Him or am hoping to become a published author? My gift is from Him, my desire to write is from Him, anything I do is from Him. I am His.

So as I go forth on this journey, I must first glorify my God. I try to put myself aside. I look at each part of my life as a way to put God first and to share His greatness and to give Him the honor and praise. I may not always succeed, but it is where I will try to begin.

So how do we glorify our God?

Believe:  We first glorify God by believing in Him, trusting His love for us, reading His Word, and accepting His Son’s sacrifice and the gift of salvation.  “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”” John 14:6 NKJV

Decide:  We also can glorify God by the decisions we make. Do we take the opportunity to share our faith, our testimony? Do we tell the truth even when it’s difficult? Do we help someone in need? “But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.”” Ruth 1:16 NKJV

Respond:  And we can glorify God by how we respond to things that happen to us. Do we try to speak kind words to others, even when they haven’t been very nice? Do we decide to forgive instead of judge? Do we thank the Lord for the trials He has seen us through? “But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:25 NKJV

This week let’s all strive to glorify God in our beliefs, our decisions, and our responses to people and trials.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we seek to glorify our God in all that we do.
