The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. Psalms 145:18 NLT
I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophecy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28b NLT
But everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved. Acts 2:21 NLT
Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved. Romans 10:12-13 NLT

Our first two verses are from the Old Testament. In Psalms, David tells us that God is close to all who call on him in truth. The second verse, from Joel, is a promise that God himself will pour out his Spirit on all people, both men and women.
The last two verses are from the New Testament after the death and resurrection of Jesus. In the verse from Acts, Peter and the disciples have already received the Holy Spirit from Jesus. Filled with the Spirit, the disciples begin speaking in tongues to the amazement of the crowds. Then Peter speaks boldly, quoting the prophecy from Joel, the promise that God would pour out his Spirit on all people. Peter then reminds the people of all Jesus was and did and those who believed and were baptized were 3,000! We celebrate this gifting of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost!
I first called upon the Lord when I was 14 years old and He saved me!
Another time the Lord saved me was a true miracle. We were clearing a vine covered area of woods. We were cutting down vines to save the trees. It had rained for two days, and we began burning the vines. But some grass caught and fire began to spread. We began hauling water from the pond but couldn’t get ahead of the burn. Mark ran to get fire extinguishers. I began raking a fire break. The wind picked up and was pushing the fire faster than I could rake. As I panicked, I called out to the Lord. “O Lord Jesus, I can’t do this on my own! Help me! Suddenly the wind shifted, and the burning fire shifted back to where it had begun and died down. Thank You, Jesus!
This week can you remember a time the Lord saved you, when you called upon His name? I’d love to hear your stories.
I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we embrace the Lord’s promise to call on the name of the Lord and be saved.
Blessings of salvation and help when we call upon the name of our Lord!
