Be the Blessing!

“May the LORD bless you and protect you. May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. May the LORD show you his favor and give you peace.” Whenever Aaron and his sons bless my people of Israel in my name, I myself will  bless them. Numbers 6:24-27

The beauty of God’s world is a blessing for all of us!

This “blessing” from the book of Numbers in the Old Testament, is the blessing that God gave to Moses so that Aaron and his sons could bless the children of Israel. As children of God through Jesus Christ, we are blessed with this same blessing! God blesses us, keeps us safe and close to Him, shines His love on us, showers us with mercy and grace, watches over us and gives us peace.

Soak in this blessing for just a minute. It is amazing all the ways that God favors us and blesses us. For just a few moments, let your mind remember all the blessings that God has given you. Too many to count? Family, friends, church family, individual gifts, fruits of the spirit, knowledge, salvation. To just name just a few!

Jesus tells us that we are to let our joy and love and knowledge of God shine for others to see. “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:16 NLT  Not just a light that is visible to others, but to let our works and our service and our actions, so shine that God is glorified. And as we serve and help, we not only bless others, but we also receive the blessing of sharing God with others.

Today let’s explore the ways in which we can bless others, anyone whose life touches ours. How can we be a blessing, demonstrating God’s love and grace and peace and blessings to those around us? What can we do?

We can love.               Bless others by simply loving them as God has loved us.

We can pray.              Bless others by praying for their needs, healing, salvation, anything.

We can listen.             Bless others by listening compassionately and empathizing.

We can encourage.    Bless others by building them up with words of support and hope.

We can volunteer.      Bless others by giving your time and talents to serve.

We can give.               Bless others with financial or material assistance.

We can share.            Bless others by sharing your faith and your knowledge.

We can forgive.           Bless others by forgiving the hurt they have caused.

We can care.              Bless others by caring for their physical needs and situations.

This week let’s make a conscious effort to shine blessings on others so that our Father in heaven is glorified. And we will also be blessed!

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we strive to be the light of blessings shining on those around us.

Abundant blessings as you bless others!

  1. Peggy, you’re an example of a person who lives her faith daily and is a blessing to all who interact with you. I hope you realize just how important you are to your readers here. Your words of hope and encouragement count as blessings to those of us who need them the most. It’s always a delight to read your posts and to realize that there are Christians out there who really do shine the light of love and kindness in a world where so many other “believers” are in it for themselves. Thank you for being who you are. Keep up the wonderful work, my friend. Keep writing–never give up, okay? 😊

  2. When I left TT for the first time, many moons ago, to go live in the UK, my eldest brother prayed with me at the airport, and the family said those words. It gave me goosebumps then, hearing the clan recite that blessing.
I appreciate you sharing these weekly devotionals, Peggy. They remind me of who I am always supposed to be representing every moment of the day.
Keep letting your light shine, my dear.

  3. These are all wonderful reminders of the things we can do to make life a little bit more of a blessing. I am always amazed at the lack of kindness with people. It takes more effort to be mean then it does to be kind. All of these wonderful reminders are all such great advice, thank you and bless you. Hugs and love, Joni
