Come and See Jesus

Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man. Psalm 66:5 ESV

Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher) “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. John 1:38-39 ESV

Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Phillip said to him, “Come and see.” John 1:46 ESV

“Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” John 4:29 ESV

He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:6 ESV

A beautiful sunrise invites us to come and see it and to thank God and Jesus for the beauty of creation!

All of our verses for today have the same two words. Can you find the two words that are in every verse? If you guessed, come and see, you are right! Did you ever get a new bike and ask a friend to “come and see” it, and maybe even ride it? Or did anyone invite you to come and see their new puppy, and pet and cuddle it?

Come and see is an invitation to action, first to go with them and then to see or discover something new for yourself like the bike or puppy. You don’t just get to see it; you get to touch it and play with it and experience it.

In our first verse, the Psalmist wants us to come and see all that God has done. I love to look at and think about all the unique things God created for us, seas and mountains, flowers and bees, dogs and cats, and pets, and everything!

In our next verses, two followers of John the Baptist started following Jesus because John had called Jesus the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Jesus invited them to come and see where He was staying. And they did and they stayed that day and got to know Jesus better. They discovered who Jesus was and what He was like. They followed Jesus!

In our third verse, Phillip, who had already been called to be a follower of Jesus, invited his friend, Nathanael to meet Jesus. Nathanael wasn’t sure but Phillip invited him to come and see Jesus and decide for himself. And when he got to know Jesus, he became a follower, too!

Our next verse is from the story of the woman at the well. Jesus was resting and asked the woman for a drink. She was surprised that He would talk to her, but as they talked and she heard Jesus speaking about her life, she believed that He was the Messiah, the Christ. She went and told all the people in her town and invited them to come and see Jesus so they could discover Him for themselves.

Our last verse is after Jesus was killed on the cross and buried. The women came to anoint His body with spices. But the angel told them that Jesus was risen, and to come and see for themselves the empty tomb. And they did and believed that Jesus was alive!

This week I invite you to “come and see” Jesus. Talk with your parents and find out all you can about Jesus in God’s Word, your Bible. Come and see and discover Jesus and get to know Him and His promises for you.

Blessings and as you come and see and discover Jesus and become more like Him!
