Renewal!

To be renewed in the spirit of your minds and to put on the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of truth. Ephesians 4:23-24 CSB

Spring is here in full green! The hardwoods are leafing out, the ferns are unfurling, the wild blueberries and the apple trees are blooming, and the sun is getting higher in the sky. It’s official! Spring’s renewal is in full swing. God’s creation is amazing!

This time of spring renewal is the perfect time for a spiritual renewal, just as Paul tells us in Ephesians. We have already become a “new creation” when we were saved. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!

But just like the mountain laurel, we need a little refreshing from time to time. A mountain laurel is considered an “evergreen.” Their leathery dark green leaves stay all winter long, even through ice storms that turn the leaves into icy sculptures. But in the spring new leaves appear and as the new leaves grow and darken, the old leaves, that survived the harsh winter, finally drop away. And the mountain laurel is renewed!

This week, let’s all try spend a little more time in God’s word, the truth and guide for our walk as children of God. Let’s seek His face and His will above ours. Let’s serve those around us and let kindness overshadow all our interactions. Let’s forgive and strengthen. Let’s pray and listen. Let’s allow our “leathery” hearts to soften and revive our walk with our Lord. Let’s renew our minds and spirits to align with God’s likeness.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we all focus on renewing our minds and spirits in this spring season of renewal.

Blessings and joyful renewal!

Lord renew us like the spring season!
