Imitate Jesus!

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, and walk in love, as Christ also loved us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. Ephesians 5:1-2 CSB

Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1 CSB

The water in our pond reflects or “imitates” what is around it, just as we can imitate or reflect Jesus so that others can see Him in us.

To imitate someone means to copy or to follow them as a model for how you act. For example, your best friend at school is really cool. You want to be like your friend. So, you start to say the same things, or dress the same way, or copy their laugh, or even eat the same foods. You are imitating your friend.

Our Bible verses for today are both written by Paul to churches that he started. The first one tells the church, and us, to “be imitators of God” because we are His “dearly loved children.” We are to “walk in love” because Jesus loved us. The second one tells everyone that as Paul tries to imitate Jesus Christ, so should we.

In order to imitate Jesus, we have to know more about Him. Where can you look to find more words to describe Jesus? Right, in the Bible. Your parents can help you find more. Make a list of 5 or 10 words that describe Jesus? I’ll help you get started.

  1. – Love
  2. – Forgiveness
  3. – Humbleness

This week I want you to look at your list of words that describe Jesus and decide how you might imitate Him. How can you show love to people you know? Can you forgive someone who hurt your feelings? Can you be humble and not boastful? Try to imitate Jesus as you talk with people this week and reflect His love to others!

Blessings and joy as you imitate Jesus!
