Genesis tells us God created everything; the sky, oceans, mountains, the moon and stars, the sun, animals, birds, and people, created in His image. And God also created how day and night and the seasons would work. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere like me, you are having winter. But did you know that people in the Southern Hemisphere are now having summer?

Winter is a time of rest for the earth, just like nighttime is a time of rest for your body and mind. The trees without leaves don’t produce food. It is almost like they are hibernating; they get water and whatever else they need through their roots. Some animals hibernate, too, like bears and groundhogs, and frogs and some squirrels.

Even though the earth is resting there is still beauty to discover in God’s beautiful winter.

Beautiful Winter

Temperatures drop below freezing, it’s winter’s first sign.

Ice coats the tree branches and glistens in the sunshine.

Clouds blanket the moon as it lights the cold night.

The winter sunrise brings no warmth with its light.

The cold day brings snow that smooths the earth.

As it rests for the winter waiting for spring’s rebirth.

Blackbirds fly south, looking for warmer places to nest.

As winter closes around us, the earth has its rest.

Beauty is found in the most unlikely of places.

An icy pine tree shines God’s amazing graces.

A fiery, sunset burns but brings only more cold.

The winter’s earth is at rest as God’s creation told.

This week discover the beauty of God in his beautiful, created world and especially in this season of winter. Talk with your parents, what beauty do you see in winter? Your parents? Snuggle in for the cold winter and rest with the earth.
