I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery – Christ. In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:2-3 CSB

I love to read a good mystery. I like to try to figure out the story along with the protagonist. A clue here and an insinuation there and the path to the final answer emerges.
Paul is writing to the Colossian church who are experiencing division over the incorrect teaching of others, promoting abstaining from specific foods, following certain laws of the Torah, and even mystical visions. Paul is encouraging them to be unified (“knit together” KJV) in love and in their focus on Jesus and Him alone.
Paul wants them to understand that Jesus is the complete truth and that the understanding of this makes all other philosophies, teachings, and knowledge of no importance. Jesus has already accomplished everything in order to justify us and reconcile us to God.
God’s mystery to restore humanity to a right relationship with its Creator is no longer a mystery. God’s mystery is no longer hidden knowledge because all has been revealed through Jesus Christ. If we look to Jesus alone and follow Him, we need no other “teachings”, no other justifications. We are God’s righteous children through faith and salvation in Jesus.
The Bible, God’s story, God’s word, takes us along the path. Throughout the Old Testament, the prophecies and predictions point to a Messiah, a Savior and king. And in the New Testament, the final answer emerges – Jesus. He is the treasure. He is the fulfillment of God’s mystery. For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ. Colossians 2:9 CSB
And Jesus even tells us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 CSB
This week let’s focus on our walk with Jesus, the complete truth. Let’s be encouraged and knit together in love.
I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we are encouraged, along with the Colossian church, in our understanding and faith in following Jesus.
Blessings and love in the understanding of God’s mystery – Christ!
