“How countless are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number – living things both large and small.” Psalms 104:24-25 CSB
“God blessed them [Adam and Eve*], and said to them, ‘Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.’” Genesis 1:28 CSB [*I added]

This Friday is Earth Day. Happy Earth Day! God created an amazing earth, the blue, air-filled sky, the massive seas, the thousands of creatures, and everything else, including you. You are one of God’s wonderful creations. In Genesis He tells Adam and Eve that they are to “rule” the earth. They, and now all of us, are to take care of God’s earth and all that He created.
God designed the world to work well. Did you know that when you breathe in air, your lungs filter the out the oxygen that your body needs? Your heart pumps your blood; it picks up oxygen from your lungs and takes it to the cells of your body. And you breathe out carbon dioxide. Pretty awesome!
Do you know why we don’t run out of oxygen in the air? Because our God made plants and trees that use the carbon dioxide that you breathe out and they give off oxygen. What a wonderfully wise design! Much of God’s creation is designed to work together. Can you think of two other creations that work together? Your parents can help.
Earth day is a reminder for each of us to look at our created earth and all that God has made and appreciate its awesome design. God created humans in His image to take care of His marvelous creation. We love and care about God, therefore we should also take care of His creation. And you can help!
What can you do for Earth Day? How can you take care of God’s earth? This week talk to your parents and decide on something your family can do together to care for God’s amazing creation. Maybe you can pick up trash, recycle used items, plant a tree, build a bird or bee house (you can find directions online) or plant a garden.
Take some time to be outside in God’s wonderful creation together. Enjoy! Draw a picture of how you and your family care for God’s beautiful earth.
Blessings and joy as you help care for God’s earth this Earth Day!
