“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.” Isaiah 60:1 NIV

How many of us heard “rise and shine” when our parents woke us up in the morning? I did. Or how many of you say this as you wake up your kids? I know my dad heard it in the Navy. But I wonder if this verse is where that phase originally came from? I like to think so.
The first part of Isaiah is full of God’s judgement because His people have turned away from Him. And they need to be saved. The remainder of Isaiah provides prophesies of Jesus Christ and encouragement for God’s people if they will return to Him. Every day as we arise, we get a new chance to shine the love of Jesus to others. Let each of us “arise and shine.”
Arise and Shine!
Arise sisters and brothers.
Arise mothers, fathers, others.
Arise to shine Jesus’ light.
Arise to fight the good fight.
Shine love to your neighbor.
Shine light where you labor.
Shine joy with your smiles.
Shine peace in your trials.
This week, along with Isaiah, I encourage you to arise and shine. As the sun rises each day, arise to a new day in Jesus Christ. And let’s shine His love, peace, patience, joy, and salvation to all whose paths cross ours.
I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we all arise to shine the light of Jesus to the glory of God the Father.
Blessings and shining!
