“Even when I am  old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.” Psalms 71:18 NIV

An eastern box turtle came by for a visit one rainy day. I wonder what story he could tell about the Creator?

Testify means “to give evidence as a witness”, “to make a statement based on personal knowledge or belief”. The disciples were the first to testify. “ With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all. Acts 4:33 NIV. Like the disciples we all have a story to tell. We all have an example of God’s love, grace and power in our lives. We all can testify.

I have heard some amazing testimonies. One of a man who was in prison, justifiably so, who received a small Bible. He wasn’t interested in the words of the Bible as much as he was interested in ripping out the pages to roll cigarettes. The small, thin pages worked exceptionally well as cigarette papers. But as he would rip out the pages to roll a cigarette, he began to read some of the words, forgiveness, love, peace, faith, hope. Soon, he was reading more than he was rolling. Jesus met him there in that prison cell and offered salvation. The man embraced his new life and continues to share his testimony of God’s saving grace.

My story is not nearly as dramatic. I have shared some of it in past posts. I wasn’t raised in the church, but had a loving, wonderful family. My grandparents were my spiritual guides. They gifted me my first Bible and God opened my heart to the words. At 13, my sister and I decided we wanted to go to church. My dad would drop us off and pick us up. I loved the youth group. We had a leader who planned lots of activities and music programs. At 14, I joined the church with my profession of faith and was baptized. I think I smiled for a whole month I was so happy.

My testimony may not be dramatic, but God’s power in my life has been. I met my husband in that youth group (we’ve been married 42 years).  Even though I had health issues that could cause birth defects, both our children were born healthy and beautiful. God has blessed us throughout our lives and in more ways than we could count.

A more recent story of God’s amazing power. We were burning some cleared brush after a couple of days of rain, but in spite of the damp ground, the fire got away from us and began to burn towards the dried leaves carpeting the forest floor. My husband went to get fire extinguishers as I raked a fire break. But the fire was still spreading. I cried out to the Lord, “Please Lord, I can’t do this on my own!” The wind immediately shifted, the fire blew away from the woods. “Thank You, Lord, thank you!” God’s power and grace testified!

This week, share your story with someone, your friends, your children. Testify to the love, grace and power of the Lord in your life. Your story only you can tell.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we testify to God’s amazing love, saving grace and awesome power.

Blessings and as you share your testimony!
