“But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.” Jeremiah 10:12 NIV
Jeremiah was a prophet that lived a long, long time ago, even before Jesus (which was over 2000 years ago). Jeremiah told the people all the things that God wanted them to know. In this verse, Jeremiah is reminding the people just who God is. He is powerful and wise and understanding. He created the earth and the heavens and all that lives.
God’s Power and Wisdom and Understanding
God’s power created the whole earth and every living thing.
You and I, plants and animals, and birds and bugs on wing.
But God also has the power to share your worries and calm your fears.
God has the power to be with you through your life and all its years.
God’s wisdom created each and every unique plant and creature in the world.
A stalk with ears of corn, a green blade of grass, a giant oak tree, trunk burled.
A spotted leopard, a humpback whale, a shaggy mountain goat, horns curled.
You and I, and every person; all colors, all cultures, all languages, gently swirled.
God’s understanding set all of it in motion, the sun, the moon and stars at night.
God’s understanding put humans in charge, to care for our earth and treat it right.
But God also has the understanding to work everything in your life together for good.
God has the understanding to know you, love you and guide you through childhood.
This week think about God’s power, wisdom and understanding in creating you! Fold a piece of paper in half. On one side draw or write things about your physical self – your hair color, skin color, height, and other physical characteristics. In the other half, draw or write things to describe the person you are; what do you like to do, what are you good at, what are your strengths and weaknesses, what goals do have? Look at your paper and know that God created you just how he wanted! You are a unique and beautiful creation!
Blessings and joy as a wonderful creation of our powerful, wise and understanding God!
