Reflect Your Heart

“As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.” Proverbs 27:19 NIV

Reflections in the pond. Although it is a bit muddy where the dogs have jumped in and out.

I love to sit at the pond and see the reflection of the sky and the surroundings on the water surface. When it is very still the reflection is nearly mirror-like. When the winds are rippling across the surface the reflection is blurry, unclear.

When I read this verse this week, I immediately loved it. I know that we’ve already talked this year about how important our hearts are. Today I want us to explore how our actions reflect our hearts. We, as Christians, want our lives to reflect our relationship with God the Father and Jesus our Savior.

As we examine our actions, our reactions, our words and our attitudes, what do we reflect? Are the fruits of the spirit evident in our reflections? Do others see love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control? Do others see God in us?

It’s kind of a heavy burden to shoulder. We already know we aren’t perfect, we aren’t without sin, we aren’t Jesus. But we can do our best to shine His light, love and compassion on others we interact with each day.

This week let’s allow the Spirit to work through us. Choose to shine God’s light. Choose to reflect the compassion of Jesus. Choose to love and forgive others as we have been loved and forgiven through our relationship with God the Father and Jesus, His Son, our Savior.

Blessings and keep up that beautiful reflection!
