Rest With the Lord

“And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” Genesis 2:2-3 NKJV

Pond Sunday

God created the whole entire world in six days! He made the light, the heavens, the seas, the dry land, the trees, the plants, the sun, the moon, the stars, the fish, the birds, the animals, the creeping things, and man and woman. Whew, God did a lot of work in six days.

But on the seventh day, God rested, He didn’t do any work. God blessed the seventh day, the sabbath (which we usually celebrate on Sundays), and made it a holy day of rest. God invites all of us to rest with Him.

My family goes to church and Sunday school on Sundays. We sing songs to God, we hear His Word, we pray, and we fellowship with our friends. We thank God for all He has done for us.

We have a friend who calls being outside in God’s creation, going to “big church”. The whole world, created by God is like a huge church where we can sing His praises, pray, read His Word, or just enjoy resting with the Lord in His creation.

Sunday afternoon we rested with the Lord; we went to big church at the pond.

We talked about the beauty of a wildflower and the intricate design of a red oak leaf.

We laughed as the dogs splashed into the pond to retrieve a toy and then shake all over.

We watched wispy white clouds float across the clear blue sky and disappear.

We felt the breeze as it rippled over the surface of the pond and cooled our faces.

We closed our eyes and listened to the birds as they sang praises and thanks to the Lord.

We sat back and relaxed and felt God’s presence, as we rested with the Lord.

This Sunday, after church, step out into “big church”, God’s marvelous creation, and rest with Him. Where do you see God? What do you hear?  Do you feel His presence and His peace? Sit back and rest and enjoy the time with God in big church. Resting is what God wants us to do!

Share your rest and your thoughts with your parents as you all rest with the Lord this Sunday.

Blessings as you rest with the Lord in His big church!
