“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him. Psalms 28:7 NKJV
Do you like to watch shows or read comic books about super heroes? You probably have some favorite heroes. Superman has great strength that he uses to help people who are in trouble. Captain America has a shield that he uses to protect himself and others from danger. In the Bible, it tells us that the Lord our God is both our strength and our shield. God is the original super hero! He has “super powers” to help us handle our troubles and to help protect us from harm. But God doesn’t work like the pretend super heroes we see on TV, in movies, or in comic books.
When people trust God to help them, He does! God performs miracles every day. Someone is healed from an illness; someone else is kept safe in an accident; there are lots of examples of how God works in people’s lives. Ask your parents to share some they know. Maybe you have even seen or heard of a few. Or look at one of the earlier posts on “Miracles Are Every Where”.
God may not swoop in and catch you if you fall, but He might be that little voice in your head that tells you jumping out of this tree might hurt and is not a good idea. God works out things for our good and watches over us. God gives us parents who love us and help us to live our best lives. Your parents probably pray every day that God will keep you safe and that God will be important in your life. Let’s thank God for being our “super hero”!
A Prayer to God My Hero
Thank You, God, for strength today,
To work and run and love and play!
Thank you, God, You are my shield,
To keep me safe with care You wield.
Thank you, God, for my trust in You,
Your help is always on time and true.
Thank you, God, my hero each day,
Please be with me forever I pray!
God is My Hero
Spiderman and Batman can never compare,
To You who shaped the world and made the air!
Captain America and Wonder Woman are great,
But animals, plants and humans You create!
Flash may be fast, but it’s not enough,
You are everywhere at once taking care of our stuff!
Superman and the Hulk are really strong,
But You split the sea for Israel’s throng!
The Incredibles are funny and sometimes smart,
But You called Noah and the world had a new start!
Supergirl and Ironman can really fly,
But You brought down Goliath with David, your guy!
Make believe super heroes are fun, but not real.
But You, God, my hero, are the real deal!!
This week think of a time when God was your hero or a hero to someone you know. Draw a picture of how God “saved the day” like a super hero! Or you can write a sentence or two about it.
Afterwards ask your parents to share your picture or sentence as a reply to this blog (or by email) so that everyone can learn about God, our super hero!
Also check out the new “Kids Gallery” page where your pictures and sentences would be posted!
