Becoming Like Jesus – Kindness

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!  Galatians 5:22-23  NLT

God shows his lovingkindness to us each morning with a beautiful sunrise, a new day!

This week we are going to talk about another “fruit of the spirit” – kindness. Remember that the fruits of the spirit are character traits that help us to become more like Jesus. Kindness is more than just being nice to people. Kindness is also something you can do for someone who needs help.

Jesus showed kindness throughout His ministry. He wasn’t just nice to people, Jesus loved and listened to the needs of people and did things to help them. There are lots of stories in the New Testament about how Jesus healed people who were blind or were sick or couldn’t walk. He fed the people when they were hungry. Remember the story of how Jesus fed over 5000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes? Jesus loved people and showed this in many acts of kindness.

Kindness is love in action. Kindness is something you can do for someone else. We might not be able to heal people or perform other miracles like Jesus. After all, He was God’s Son! But we can still perform acts of kindness for the people around us that need help. And Jesus tells us in Matthew 25 And the King (Jesus) will say, “I tell you the truth, when you did it one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” Whenever we do something kind for others, Jesus says it is just like doing something kind for Him!

Showing Kindness Like Jesus

This week pick someone to show God’s love with a kind deed.

Anyone you know, just make sure your parents have agreed.

Talk about your plan with your parents and decide how to start.

A card, a chore, a visit, a meal, whatever touches your heart.

Put your thoughtful plan into action with kindness and love,

And you will all feel God’s love coming down from above!

This week talk with your parents and choose someone you could be kind to. How did it make them feel, how did it make you feel? Try to choose someone new each week!

Blessings and God’s lovingkindness be with you!
