The Empty Tomb

“Then the angel spoke to the women, “Don’t be afraid!” he  said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He has risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead…’ Matthew 28:5-7a NLT

The cross is empty and so is the tomb! Jesus lives and offers forgiveness and salvation to all who would believe.

Happy early Easter! Next Sunday is Easter. The tomb is empty. What a day of worship and joy and celebration. Our Lord is risen, He is alive, He saves us. But Holy Week also asks us to look at the events leading up to that empty tomb. The jealousy, the betrayal, the denial, the beatings, the mocking, and the crucifixion. The death of our Lord. Jesus chose to experience all of that so that we would believe and be saved, so that we could have a relationship with Him and God the Father. Thank You, Jesus!

The Empty Tomb

Our sin sent Jesus into the world as a human baby.

His love brought Him from heaven to earth.

Our sin sent Jesus to Jerusalem for the Passover.

His love washed the disciples’ feet, servant to all.

Our sin betrayed, arrested, and convicted Him.

His love demanded Him to keep His silence.

Our sin beat Him and crowned His head with thorns.

His love accepted and endured all that was done to Him.

Our sin nailed Him to the cross.

His love kept Him there to die.

Our sin buried Him in a tomb.

His love conquered death so that I can forever live with Him!

He is alive!

This week, we remember the events of Holy Week, but we can rejoice in the empty tomb. Jesus is risen and lives with us and for us.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we celebrate the empty tomb, and all that Jesus did for us.

Blessings and rejoicing! Happy Easter!

  1. Because he lives, I can face tomorrow.

I had a discussion with a Muslim colleague last week, just as he finished his fasting for Ramadan, and he asked me if I was looking forward to Easter?
I was about to respond hastily, but I thought about it… was he asking about the holiday or the significance of his ressurection to a believer?
    He answered for me…
He began, “Jesus, Peace be upon him…” and proceeded to tell me about how important spiritual rest is to a believer, and how we should spend time on these holidays to reflect and draw closer to God.
Needless to say, I was a little embarrassed.
Sometimes, I forget that Jesus died for the entire world…. not just for Christians. And there are people, not of my faith, who look at his life and ministry with incredible reverence. It made me wonder, how am I reflecting this as a disciple.
Of course, it was an opportunity to share my thoughts about who Jesus is to me and what his death and resurrection mean for all.
    Thanks for the share, Peggy.
