The Way to Wisdom

But God understands the way to wisdom, and he knows its location. For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. When God fixed the weight of the wind and distributed the water by measure, when he established a limit for the rain and a path for the lightning, he considered wisdom and evaluated it; he established it and examined it. He said to mankind, “The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom. And to turn from evil is understanding.” Job 28:23-28 CSB

Can you imagine God measuring the water for the oceans and seas?

I love the imagery of these verses from Job. He tells us that God understands the way to wisdom. I can imagine God using His wisdom as He fixed the weight of the wind, measured out water for each ocean and sea, set a limit for the rain and the path of lightning.

But God didn’t just consider wisdom; He evaluated it, established it, and examined it. And then God told mankind, all of us, that the fear of the Lord is the way to wisdom. And that turning from evil is understanding.

The fear of the Lord is our way to wisdom. We need to take time to “consider” it, “evaluate” it, “examine” it, and finally “establish” it in our own lives. James 1:5 tells us, “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God – who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly – and it will be given to him.” God is the source, the way, of wisdom. We have only to ask.

Solomon also had the way of wisdom right. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10

I ask for God’s wisdom as I write each blog post. I pray that what I write speaks to at least one person that God needs to reach or that it touches someone’s heart.

This week let’s all follow God’s way to wisdom by examining and evaluating the wisdom found in God’s Word, praying for wisdom in making decisions or knowing God’s will, and following God because that is the way to wisdom.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we strive to follow our God in the way of wisdom.

Blessings and wisdom with our Lord God Almighty!

  1. Well-written as always, Peggy, and brimming with wisdom. I think one true manifestation of wisdom is to recognize that we don’t know everything and we’re willing to seek answers rather than assume we know it all. One thing being an old codger (well, 61 is sort of old and codgerish, I guess) has taught me is that the more we think we know, the less we actually understand. Dunning-Kruger Effect in action, you know? The wisest people I’ve ever known are those who freely admit they don’t have a monopoly on wisdom. It frees them to absorb knowledge every day–their cups are never full, so there’s always room for more enlightenment and wisdom.

It’s such a pleasure to read your posts. You are, indeed, making a difference in this world. Keep shining, friend. ☺️
