Happy Labor Day!

There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God, for apart from him who can eat or have enjoyment? Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 ESV

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 ESV

My favorite place to rest and relax after finishing my work. Where do you like to rest?

Happy Labor Day! I hope you and your family are having a wonderful long weekend celebrating the Labor Day holiday. Your parents are off work, and you are out of school! Labor Day celebrates everyone who works. And that includes you! Because when you are young and in school, that is your work, your labor. You work hard to finish assignments and complete homework and do your very best. So, enjoy your break from schoolwork and enjoy the Labor Day weekend with your family!

In our first verses for today, Solomon is saying that we should enjoy what we eat and drink because God has provided it for us. He also says we should enjoy our work which God also provides. Sometimes we don’t really enjoy all of the work we do, but we should do it without complaining. When I was young, cleaning my room was not my favorite job. But I did it, always thankful when it was finished! What is your least favorite job? How can you make it better using today’s verses?

In our second verse, Paul gives all of us some great advice on doing our work. When you do your work, do it as if you were doing it for Jesus. And not only do your work but thank God that you can do your work!  We would all probably have a better attitude about our work if we were working for Jesus and thanking God for the gift of being able to work!

This week, enjoy your work! If you have chores at home that you don’t really like to do, follow Paul’s advice and do it like you are doing it for Jesus. I bet there would be less complaining, and you would get it done much quicker. When you have schoolwork, try to think about finishing it for Jesus, and see if it makes it easier to stay on track.

Happy Labor Day!

Blessings and joy as you work with the Lord!

  1. Girl.. I worked so long and hard that Labor Day weekend, I was cranky by the middle of the week. Lol.
But you’re right… the word says we work as though for God, and not because our bosses are looking.
I usually enjoy my job. The people, the camaraderie.
And it’s really good to come home after a long, hard day, and remind myself, this, is a gift from God. Its a blessing as many are unemployed.
