So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 ESV

God made people in His image. God created you in His image. When you were born, your parents gave you your name. Maybe you have a nickname, too. My name is Peggy, but growing up everyone in my family called me Peg. I even got called Pegleg sometimes, like a pirate. I didn’t really like that one!

Last week we talked about judging people and one of the examples we used was calling someone a “scaredy cat.” Sometimes we may get called by names that are mean and not true. But what we really have to remember is who God says we are, because He knows us and created us. His Word tells us who we are and can be!

God Says You Are:

You are “loved by God”, and you are “God’s child”                            1John 3:1-2

You were “chosen by God”, His special possession                          1Peter 2:9

You are “valuable” and “God provides for you”                                  Matthew 6:26

You are a “friend of Jesus” when you follow Him                               John 15:14-15

You are “forgiven” of your sins                                                           1John 2:12

You are a “new creation” in Jesus                                                      2Corinthians 5:17

You are “adopted as God’s sons and daughters”                               Ephesians 1:5

You are “God’s handiwork”, created for good works                          Ephesians 2:10

You are “called for God’s purpose”                                                     Romans 8:28

You are the “light of the world” shining God’s love                             Matthew 5:14-16

This week talk with your parents, read the verses together and see if you can find more verses that tell you who God says you are. Use these new “names” for who you are and to be the person that God calls you to be.
