Don’t Be Foolish, Be Wise

The rainbow is one of God’s promises to us, another of God’s promises is that He will give us wisdom when we ask.

Tomorrow is April Fools’ Day! This is a playful holiday celebrated in countries all around the world. No one really knows for sure how it began but it is a day to play harmless jokes on people. A day where you try to fool someone into believing something that isn’t true, or they try to fool you.

For example, let’s  say you get to school tomorrow, and your friend asks if you studied for the test today. You didn’t know there was supposed to be a test today. But your friend convinces you there is a test, and you start to believe your friend and get worried. As soon as your friend sees that you believed her and are worried, she says, “April Fools!”

A fool is defined as someone who is unwise or silly. Or someone who is tricked into believing something that isn’t true. So be prepared tomorrow that someone may try to fool you. Or maybe you will try to fool someone else. Have fun but remember to be a good sport if you get fooled and kind if you fool someone else.

To be wise means to have knowledge and understanding, to make good choices, and to learn from your mistakes.

The Bible has many verses on being foolish and on being wise. I am going to list several of them for you and your parents to talk about.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Ecclesiastes 7:9 Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools.

Proverbs 18:2  A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in expressing his opinion.

Ephesians 5:17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.

Many of our verses tell us that the way to be wise is to fear God. But fear here doesn’t mean to be afraid, it means to respect, love, and honor God and know how awesome He is. He created everything. He created and loves you!

Have fun on April Fools’ Day! But talk with your parents and work on becoming wise in the Lord.

Blessings and wisdom as you walk with God!
