Happy Veterans Day!

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 ESV

For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the LORD. Jeremiah 30:17a ESV

Today is Veterans Day, the day set aside to honor all the men and women who have served their country (and all of us) in the military; Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

A bit of history – Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day and was first established to mark the end of World War I on November 11,1918. The first Armistice day was celebrated on November 11th, 1919. In 1954 Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day to honor all the veterans who had served and fought in all wars and conflicts, not just in World War I.

Every person who joins the military takes an oath to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies and to obey the orders of the President and officers. “So help me God.” Every soldier understands that they may have to give their life to protect their country and all of us, there is no greater love.

My dad served in the Navy during the Korean War. Both of my brothers served in the Navy, on nuclear subs (both were over 6’ tall – they had to do a lot of ducking!) in the Atlantic.

Today if you are a veteran we celebrate and honor and thank you for your service and your willingness to go to the front lines to protect all of us. A truly heartfelt thank you!

If you have a veteran in your family or know a veteran, please take time to say thank you. Honor them for all that they did to keep us and our country free and strong. Thank you to every veteran as we celebrate each of you!

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you today for joining me as we honor all who gave their time and talents and love to serve and fight for us and our country.

Blessings and thankfulness as we honor our veterans on Veterans Day!

  1. I’ve had cousins, uncles and even an aunt who served, as well as distant ancestors, in all the wars dating back to WWI. Some made it back okay, some came back changed, and some never came back at all. We must remember those who gave their lives to protect our democracy and freedom, especially during this current dark time.

Wishing you a good Veterans Day, my friend. 😊

  2. I have cousins who serve. I admire anyone who makes that choice to serve their country in the line of duty. Some of them back in the day didn’t have a choice. I hope and pray that conflicts will soon end. 👏🙏
