Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

I admit it; I tend to be a worrier. The wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep because my mind won’t shut down kind of worrier. So, when I came across this verse again in a Sunday School lesson, I was convicted once more.
I do try to follow Paul’s advice; I start praying, and God doesn’t seem to mind the late night “calls.” I lay my worries at His feet, (the imagery helps me to leave it with Him and not pick it up again). The first time I truly felt God’s complete peace was a surprise to me, but it was real.
My daughter was studying in Spain for a semester of college. She called one night upset, nothing major, but I was thousands of miles away and had no way to get to her! We were both in a bit of a panic. But as we talked, we both felt a bit calmer. We said goodnight and I love you, and I prayed! And I left all my worries and concerns for my daughter with God, and I experienced His true peace.
We live in a world full of anxiety and worry. This week I encourage all of us, myself included, to follow Paul’s advice and be anxious for nothing. But instead to take our worries and anxieties to God in prayer and lay them at the Lord’s feet, leave them and know the peace that surpasses all understanding. We have to trust that once we hand off our worries and anxieties and cares to God, that He will take care of us and work all things for our good.
It takes practice, and I am still working on it. But we all can use less anxiety and worry and more of God’s gift of peace. To God be the glory!
I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we lay our worries and anxieties at the feet of the Lord and experience His amazing peace.
Blessings and peace!
I tend to be a Velcro Worrier–it’s almost impossible for me to remove my worries since they stick to me with frustrating tenacity. I’ve always liked this verse and have sought that peace that passes all understanding. It’s hard to come by sometimes, as you said. Sometimes our worries are so “comfortable” that we don’t want to get rid of them due to their familiarity. This can cause a lot of problems. I suppose we just have to keep trying and trusting, eh?
Here’s wishing you a good (and worry-free) week, my friend. 😊

Thanks, Mike, for your kind encouragement and support!! Yes, I struggle with worry as well and yes we just keep trying! “Comfortable” is a good word, they do tend to keep us company. Probably too often! 😊

i tend to go off the deep end of worry. So on my project wall, my refrigerator, my writing desk, and even in my car, I have a little sign that says “stop stressing, God is in control”.
The little reminders keep my grounded. Be anxious for nothing. Worry is really questioning the faithfulness of God. And he has always been true to his word, hasn’t he?
But we are fragile creatures..thank God that his mercies, they fail not, and great is his faithfulness.
God bless you, Peggy dearest. 🙏
