Being a “God Pleaser!”

For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light…and try to discern what is pleasing to God. Ephesians 5:8,10 ESV

So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him; bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10 ESV

And thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe. Hebrews 12:28b ESV

One of my favorite places to enjoy God’s amazing creation! Fall colors are beginning.

The world today tells us to “please” ourselves, “if it feels good, do it”, “our first and last love is self-love”, “do your thing and don’t care if they like it”, and “do your own thing” are just a few examples.

We also feel the need to please others, to be “people pleasers”. Trying to make a good impression so that others will value us and like us. We just have to look at social media posts. Who have you tried to please? Maybe your parents, your teachers, your boss, your friends; I admit to being a people pleaser, too, we’ve all been there.

But there is One we should be trying to please and that is our God, our Lord, our Savior, our Almighty Father. Our verses today suggest that we please God when walk in His light as His children, when we bear fruit by doing good works, and when we read and study God’s Word and gain knowledge of Him.

Pleasing God by:

first, having faith and trusting in Him,

praising and giving thanks,

shining His light to others,

being filled with the Spirit,

being humble,

loving others,

following His will in our lives,

obeying His Word,

following the example of Jesus,

praying and enjoying His creation.

This week let’s shift our focus to become “God pleasers.” Let’s joyfully choose to please God.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we all strive to be “God Pleasers.”

Blessings and joy as we please our God!

  1. Back in my 20s when I could still hear well enough to understand music and play guitar, one of my favorite bands was a Christian band called Petra (perhaps you’ve heard of them?). On their 1983 Not of This World album there is a song called “Godpleaser.” It’s pretty cool, and although I haven’t heard it in decades, I remember it clearly. Petra was a really good Christian rock band (and their guitarist was amazing, which is what attracted me to the band initially), and I learned to play a few of their songs on guitar. Your message here goes hand-in-hand with Petra’s song. All too often, we really are pressured to fit in with the world when we should be aiming higher.

It’s always a pleasure reading your timely, well-written messages, Peggy. Keep ’em coming, my friend. 😊

  2. the word in the KJV says to walk circumspectly. And my mother would always remind me, that if I valued the relationship i have with someone, I will do everything to ensure the relationship is harmonious..then why would I treat my relationship with God any different?

as we get older, we realise the value of what we have with our heavenly father. It is not something illusory to those who walk by faith. Once we experience the goodness of God, we say like David, that sitting in his presence is the one this that we desire above all else.

    im getting there.

    Blessings, Peggy dearest. 💜💜🙏
