Rejoice in God’s Word!

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 ESV

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 ESV

Rejoicing and praising with a beautiful sunrise in God’s amazing creation!

From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised! Psalm 113:3

I’ve been reading through Psalm 119 this week. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses, as well as the longest Psalm! The author is unspecified. Some believe it was penned by David and used to teach Solomon, his son, the Hebrew alphabet and to delight in God’s words. Others believe it may have been written by Daniel. Still others by Jeremiah or Ezra. But no matter who wrote it, this Psalm is a wonderful read for all. It exalts God and his commands, statutes, laws and words.

Psalm 119 is also an acrostic poem. It uses the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. For each letter there are eight stanzas each beginning with the same Hebrew letter.

I would like to offer this acrostic poem prayer for each of you!

Praying for each and every person who visits today,

perhaps for healing, comfort, grief or you’ve gone astray.

Regardless your need, know that your God is near,

remembering your heart and wiping away your tear.

According to His word, mercy and grace abound,

aligning your will with His, your true purpose found.

Yahweh searches your heart and loves your soul,

yes, every joy restored from what the enemy stole.

Each new day a gift of peace, beauty, and delight,

eager as God’s son or daughter to accept your birthright.

Recalling the blessings and love that anchored your life,

raise your voice in praise of your God, in ease or in strife.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we exalt our God and treasure His word.

Blessings and joy in the word of God!

If you are inspired to write your own acrostic poem, I would love to read it!

  1. Another wonderful, meaningful post (and amazing poem, too), Peggy. I recall a Psalm from my younger days which I’d written on my softball glove, and which I’d read frequently while playing 3rd base in men’s fastpitch softball when I was 20: “The Lord is my strength and my song, and is become my salvation.” (Psalm 118:14) It was just a quirky way to remind myself that things would be okay. Now, all these decades later, dealing with so much frustration and fear for this country and the world and with no respite in sight, it’s still sort of comforting to recall that old softball glove and “Psalm 118:14” written on it. It offers a little bit of hope, perhaps, in an all too dark world. 😊

    • Thank you, Mike, for you too kind and constant support! I love the story of the Psalm written on your baseball glove! We all need to keep our hope these days for sure, and what better way than with a psalm! Blessings, Mike! 😊
