God Accepts Our Doubts

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14

We will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea!

It has been one of those weeks where life is busy, and time is short. When we can’t seem to catch up. Where doubts tend to creep in. This blog is a repost from 2019 that helps us (me!) to accept and give our doubts to the Lord.

I love this visual prophecy from Habakkuk; the earth with be filled with the knowledge of the Lord just as the seas are filled with water. But sometimes our “knowledge of the glory of the Lord” is lacking; when things happen, we have doubts about our faith. Is God really there?

The Psalms are filled with cries from David when he wonders where God is, when he is facing enemies and troubles. Does God hear him? But even in these times of trouble and doubt, David trusts in His God to come to his assistance. Psalms 31 is just one example. David is “in trouble”, “spent with grief”, “like a dead man”, “like a broken vessel” and “fear is on every side”. Yet… “But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.”” Psalms 31:14

God accepts and forgives our doubts and even strengthens our faith. In Mark 9:14-27, there is the story of a parent who wants Jesus to heal his epileptic child when His disciples could not. Jesus tells him, “All things are possible to him who believes.” And the father immediately replies, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” The man’s son is healed. Even when we doubt, God feels our sorrow, our weakness and restores us.

One night I woke up in a panic but can not tell you what I was dreaming or the thoughts that awoke me. I lay quietly and all seemed peaceful and as it should be, but I could not go back to sleep. I came into the den and started writing in my journal as the words flowed. (I have tried to put them in some kind of order!)

Nighttime Musings – What If There is No God?

What do I lose?

Eternal life and heaven realized.

My Guide for living, for writing?

What do I have?

I still live this earthly life.

I feel and experience…

the beauty of the earth, seas, sky; natural world, creation

something “bigger than myself” that fills my emptiness,

            unconditional love,

            forgiveness for my past,

            peace of salvation,

            love for those around me,

the desire to serve and help,

the light and warmth of the Son,

the joy of sharing all this, and

            GOD.

Yes, God is there! Yes, He is my God! My faith has its moments of doubt, but my faith isn’t just about believing that there is a God. My faith is based on my relationship with God, and the saving grace I gratefully accept though His Son, Jesus, and the companionship of the Holy Spirit. I may not be able to convince everyone with an eloquent debate, but the realness of my relationship is all the evidence I need! Thank You, God! I will continue to share my faith and joy and love with others.

This week let’s face our doubts. Let’s go to our God, and our Savior, and allow Them to help our “unbelief”.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we take our doubts to the Lord.

Blessings and joy, my friends, as we go to God with our doubts and believe!

My faith has found a resting place, not in a man made creed…
It is enough that Jesus died, and rose again for me.

Loved this post, Peggy. Doubts assail us all. But God is patient with all of his children. 🤗🙏

  2. A calming balm for those dark nights of the soul all of us experience all too often. When that spiritual silence settles on us, it’s deafening and the isolation we feel is complete. Some of us struggle for decades to hear that voice again, and it’s easy to lose hope in the dimness of our lives. This post–like all of your posts–is timely and well-written and impactful, Peggy. Please continue bringing the light. You’re making a difference in peoples’ lives, my friend. 😊🕯️
