Teach Me Your Path, Lord

Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Psalm 25:4-5 ESV

A narrow path along a hillside. We need God to help us to follow His life path for us.

I feel like I am still kind of stuck on last week’s blog about God calling us and equipping us. I know I have felt God’s calling to write Christian books for kids. I believe my calling is to tell the next generation about our Lord. Stories that lets kids see and experience God and Jesus in our world. But I’m not where I thought I would be. So, as I read this verse in Psalms this week, it kind of hit me between the eyes.

Maybe I need to be more aware of the path that God has for me rather than where I think I should be. This week, this verse has become my prayer, as it was for David. Help me, Lord, to know your ways, teach me your paths for me, lead me in your truth and teach me, I wait for You all the day long.

I think the waiting seems to be my biggest obstacle. I admit that the years of writing my devotional blogs have honed my writing. And hopefully as I continue to write, I will learn and move along God’s path to fruition. In the meantime, I wait and I write.

Paths We Travel

God’s path seems too rocky and hard,

I’ll just follow my path till it’s barred.

Now what? I have to find a way

I’ll try God’s path and I stop to pray.

Teach me, lead me, to where You guide,

I’ll humbly follow and without my pride.

Thank You, God, for patience and Your path.

As I find my way to follow Your perfect path.

This week, let’s all examine our own path; where is it leading us and is it God’s path for our lives? Is our purpose aligned with His? I invite you to join me in finding God’s path, His way, for each of us in our walk with Him.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we each try to discover God’s path for our lives.

Blessings and happy journeys along God’s path!

  1. Thanks for this wonderful reminder! We may encounter a few obstacles or it might get really steep and difficult to traverse but He is always with us, guiding us when we’re in His will. I sometimes forget that and think that His path should feel comfortable and relaxing. I remember going on walks through the woods with my Dad when I was little. He would walk in front of me and step on the briars to hold them down so I could walk safely through. That’s what our Heavenly Father is doing! Thanks again for this timely devotion that has brought to mind such a beautiful reminder!

  2. You’re right, Peggy: waiting can be excruciating because it allows doubt to sprout and flourish if we’re not careful. I stopped writing for twenty years between ages 28-48. I had given up after finding no success whatsoever with my short fiction. While I lament those lost years that I could have used to write, what actually occurred was that I was living, gaining life experience, so that when 2012 came along, suddenly I had a lot of things to write about when I began writing poetry. Without those twenty fallow years, I would never have started writing poetry. Life is very strange, and I’ll be the first to say I don’t understand anything, really (😃), but you’re right about timing and having to wait sometimes. I have all the confidence in the world in your writing ability, and I believe right this moment that you could write successful children’s books. Hang in there, my friend. It will happen, and sooner than you think. 😊

    • Mike, you don’t know how much I appreciate you and your kindness and encouragement!! I have had several rejection letters from agents and editors and have come so close to giving up. But sharing your story and your faith and confidence in mine keeps me going. I actually started writing a devotional for kids (since it is kind of what I’m already doing). 😊 Thanks again, my friend, for cheering me on!
