Their descendants will serve him; the next generation will be told about the Lord. They will come and declare his righteousness; to a people yet to be born they will declare what he has done. Psalm 22:30-31 CSB

Christmas is coming! Have you and your family started decorating? What are some of the traditions you have at Christmas? When we were young my sister, two brothers, and I had to wait at the top of the stairs until our parents called us down to open presents. No peeking! When I got married my husband’s family always had fried chicken and biscuits for Christmas breakfast after they opened gifts. We do that on Christmas morning, too. A new tradition.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Jesus is also called Jesus Christ or Jesus the Christ. Do you see the word Christ in Christmas? Christ means God’s anointed one or God’s chosen one. In the Old Testament there are many verses that prophesied or told about the coming of the Messiah, the Hebrew word for God’s anointed one.
Our verse today is from the Old Testament; it is from a Psalm written by David long before Jesus was born. It prophesies that each generation will share the good news about the Lord with the next generation. People will talk about His righteousness and declare all that He has done. And this has definitely been the case because that is how we all know about Jesus today! My grandparents gave me a Bible and took me to church and told me about Jesus. Who told you about Jesus?
Have you ever heard the saying, “Jesus is the reason for the season?” It really means that Christmas isn’t just about our traditions or decorations or gifts. The whole of Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s Son come to earth as a baby to save all who believe on Him.
This Christmas, enjoy the celebrations and traditions but remember that we are really celebrating Jesus. Share the Christmas story from Luke in the Bible. Tell someone you know about Jesus, declare what He has done for you. Do you have younger brothers, sisters, or cousins? Share the good news about Jesus and His birth this Christmas season.
Blessings and joy as you tell others about Jesus – the real reason for the season!
Christmas was fun when I was a kid, nobody really cares now, no decoration, no joy, harmattan used to be intensed back then, now its pretty less, things have really changed.

As we get older we seem to do less for Christmas. When our kids were young we spent a few days decorating and baking. Now much less decorating. But the kids still help when they come in and the best part are the memories and stories we share.
