Declare Jesus to Everyone!

Their descendants will serve him; the next generation will be told about the Lord. They will come and declare his righteousness; to a people yet to be born they will declare what he has done. Psalm 22:30-31 CSB

A nativity scene we’ve had since our kids were little. Jesus is the reason for the season!

The Christmas season is upon us! Yesterday was the first day of Advent, four weeks of anticipating and celebrating the arrival of Jesus. Strings of festive lights are going up in our neighborhoods, trees are getting decorated, and children are showing excitement. We love to celebrate the Christmas season! We love to celebrate our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

The Old Testament is full of prophecies about the coming of the Messiah. The number of prophecies varies, depending on the source, from 200 to over 400. Our verse for today comes from a Psalm by David. In this Psalm, David first laments and prays to God for deliverance from his enemies but, like many of his Psalms, he finishes with praise.

Psalm 22 also gives us two other prophecies about the Lord. …a gang of evildoers has closed in on me; they pierced my hands and my feet. Psalm 22:16b and They divided my garments among themselves, and they cast lots for my clothing. Psalm 22:18.

In our verse David is praising God and saying that each generation will serve Him and declare His righteousness to the next generation. And this is true, or we wouldn’t know about Him today! I know I’ve told some of my story before, but my grandparents gave me my first Bible and we always prayed and went to church when we stayed at their home.  I came to know the Lord because they declared Him to me. They showed Him to me through their lives. Who first told you about Jesus, your parents, grandparents, another family member, or a friend?

This Christmas season, declare the amazing story of Jesus, Son of God, our Savior, and Lord. Shine His light and love for everyone to see. Joyfully celebrate His birth, life, and resurrection. Share Jesus with the next generation and continue the story.

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we declare the story of Jesus to the next generations.

Blessings and joy this Christmas season!
