Be Still and Seek God

Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalms 46:10 NKJV

A rushing waterfall is an amazing part of God’s creation. I love to be still and seek to find God.

Sitting still is one of the hardest things adults ask kids to do. So many places to go, so many things to do, so many games to play, so many friends to talk to, and on and on. Making your mind be still is even harder. So many thoughts are bouncing around inside your head.

Our verse asks us to quiet our minds and to seek God. We can’t see God, so how do we look for Him? God is all around us if we just look for the evidence. We can look for God in the beauty and colors of a flower. We can look for God in the jagged layers of a rock. We can look for God in the smile of a new friend we met at school. God created it all!

Finding God in the Stillness

I sit still and quiet beside the creek,

Looking for God, maybe just a peek.

The water splashes, the sunlight shines,

God made it all, beneath tall straight pines.

I see God’s work in the world all around,

From bright, blue sky to green, grassy ground.

A small, speckled frog sees me and JUMPS!

I laugh, as he hides behind an old stump.

A cricket chirps a “How do you do?”

I bend down and say, “Wonderful! You?”

I did find God at my creek-side place,

All creation sings of God’s amazing grace!

This week take a fall walk with your mom or dad or a friend.  Find a nice place to sit, still your mind, and look for God in the world around you! What do you see that reminds you God is near? Is it the leaves changing colors, or maybe the birds singing, or a perfect tree for climbing, or a squirrel running up a tree?  Draw a picture where you looked for God and found Him. Don’t forget to share your picture with someone and tell them where you found God.

Blessings and peace as you quiet your mind, be still, and seek and find God in His creation!

  1. We all need our own personal creek-side place, don’t we? What a wonderful poem and essay, and I can imagine kids will be delighted to read it! Keep bringing the light, Peggy. This world needs it right now. 🙂

    • Thank you so much, Mike, for your kind words and support! That’s one thing I love about where we live, we have at least three small creeks and the sound of flowing water is so calming and peaceful. Thanks again. Blessings and prayers my friend!
