The instruction of the LORD is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise. The precepts of the LORD are right, making the heart glad; the command of the LORD is radiant, making the eyes light up. Psalms 19:7-8 CSB

Our verses today are from a Psalm written by King David; we’ve looked at lots of verses of his. Today David is sharing with us that when we read and study God’s Word, the Bible, we also get gifts from God. There is a pattern to these two verses. Can you see it? I made a chart so that you can see it better.
What does God’s Word have for us? | What Gift do we receive from God? |
Instruction – a direction or order | Renewing of our lives |
Testimony – a statement of who God is | Making the inexperienced wise |
Precepts – a general rule for behavior or thought | Making the heart glad |
Command – an order by God | Making the eyes light up |
As we read and think about God’s Word, we receive gifts from God; like feeling new, learning wisdom, happiness, and seeing the light of God so that we can shine it for others. And know that there are a lot more gifts we can receive as we study the Bible. Gifts like peace, joy, forgiveness, God’s presence with us, and guidance.
This week as you read your Bible, how do you feel about what you read? Talk to your parents about what you read. Did you learn something about how you should treat others? Or how to share God with others? Or maybe just happy to know that God loves you? Maybe you can even start to make notes on what verses you read and the gift you received so that you can use it the next time you need it.
Blessings and all the gifts that God offers us as we read His Word!
