“I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.” Psalms 16:7-9 NIV
Do you ever have trouble sleeping? When my kids were little they sometimes had trouble falling asleep because of busy days or too much excitement or fear of the dark. And I would lay on the floor beside their bed quietly holding their hand until they drifted off to sleep. They felt safe just knowing I was close.
Our Father God is just like that, too. God is with us “even at night.” He is with us always and lets us rest secure and safe with Him. If we are scared or worried or concerned about something, God is by our side. But if we choose to focus on the Lord and not our troubles or fears, He helps us to carry them and we can rest with Him in peace.
Do you have a nighttime prayer that you say each night? A prayer can help you to focus on the Lord so that you can rest with Him. Bring your fears and troubles and give them to Him. Talk to your parents and make up your own bedtime prayer to say each night.
Dear Lord, as I lay down to sleep,
I give you my troubles and fears to keep.
Watch over me and give me rest,
I give You praise because I am blessed.
Wake with me to a brand-new day,
And be by my side and never stray.
This week use this prayer or one that you and your parents decide on to say each night. And know that the Lord is near and rest with the Lord safely each night.
Blessings and rest with the Lord!
