God’s Calling

“For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29 NIV

A gift that God gives us each and every day, a beautiful sunrise or sunset.

After I retired and moved to the foothills of Virginia, I felt God’s calling to write Christian stories for kids. I went to a Christian writer’s conference in 2017 and got pumped! I came home, wrote stories and started this blog. I so enjoy writing the blogs each week, one for adults and one for kids, so that families can share a devotional time in God’s word.

But the children’s book writing kind of hit a dead end after several rejections, which were actually “no responses”. Back in the day you at least got a rejection letter, you knew where you stood. Now it is basically “if you haven’t heard from us in six months we are not interested, but thank you for your submission”. You wait and wait and nothing.

I admit I just kind of gave up for a while. Maybe this wasn’t really my calling? I did still write my stories. I enjoy the story telling and the research into God’s word. But, as I read this verse again in my daily reading, it kind of hit me between the eyes. God was talking to me through His word. You can’t ignore your calling!

So…I am off to a Christian writer’s conference in Michigan. I hope to get lots of great information, meet lots of people in the business, and get advice from other authors. I hope to continue God’s calling on my life and be confident and bold in my work for His kingdom.

This week, I appreciate your prayers. Thank you!  And I ask you to consider your gifts and calling. We all have gifts and a calling to do for the kingdom of the Lord. What is yours?

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as we all recognize our gifts and strive to answer the Lord’s call for our lives.

Blessings!
