“Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” John 4:10 NIV

This verse is from the story of the Samaritan woman at the well in the book of John. You or your parents can read the whole story in John 4:1-26. Jesus asks the woman for a drink of the water that she is getting from a well. But then Jesus says that He can give her (and us) “living water”. In this story Jesus is comparing Himself to water. Water is something we all know about.
In the Bible, Jesus compares Himself to other things to help people (and us!) understand Him better. One of the most familiar is Jesus is like a shepherd and we are His sheep. Some others are – He is the grape vine and we are the branches, He is the light for our path, and He is the bread of life.
But today we are going to compare water and Jesus, the “living water”. We are going to think of ways they are alike. I’m sure you can probably think of more than I did!
Water Jesus (Living Water)
Water is everywhere Jesus’ spirit is everywhere
We use water everyday Talk to Jesus everyday
We wash with water Jesus washes away our sins
We drink water when we’re thirsty Read our Bible when we are thirsty to know Jesus better
Trust water to float a boat Trust Jesus to guide our lives and hold us up
Water can fill any shape Jesus can fill each of us with His love
This week try to do your own comparison list, your parents can help you. Choose to compare: A Shepherd and Jesus, Light and Jesus, A Grapevine and Jesus, or Bread and Jesus. List ways these two can be alike, compare them.
Blessings as you learn to know Jesus better!
