“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” I Corinthians 13:13

Happy Father’s Day to every daddy, father, pop, papa, grandpa, and dad out there! Whatever we may call them, our fathers are loved and more than that, they love us unconditionally. I hope that you made the father in your life feel special yesterday. Fathers help us to become who we are.
My dad was special. He loved all of us kids, 2 girls and 2 boys, and showed it in all the ways he took care of us. But one of the best things I remember is that my dad loved my mom. They would go out for “date night”, just the two of them. Or he would call on his way home from work and my mom would meet him somewhere to get a drink and talk for just an hour or so.
He also put up with a tomboy daughter who followed him around all the time. I “worked” on his cars with him. I learned the name of every wrench, plier, and tool so that I could be his assistant mechanic. He always bought a nice “family” car for my mom to drive, but he would get an older used car and fix it up himself as his car. I also sat in his wood shop watching him turn wood into furniture.
My dad loved to laugh and tell jokes. He would make us all laugh by being silly. One of my favorite pictures is my dad sitting on the floor with light bulbs in his ears and mouth. Are you laughing? He also had a sweet tooth, those weird orange circus peanuts, maple nut goodies, peanut M & M’s, candy corn. I guess really anything sweet. But he would always share!
My dad died in 1994, way too early. My kids never got a chance to know their grandpa, my dad. I still miss him but will always have the wonderful memories.
This week let’s take time to remember the love of our dads, fathers, daddies, grandpas, and the other men in our lives that loved and supported us. If your father was not around or not the loving father you needed, please remember that your Father God loves you unconditionally and desires nothing more than for you to be His son or daughter.
I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week to celebrate and remember the love of our fathers.
Blessings and love!
