Love One Another!

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 NIV

When we cut down a tree we found a heart shape inside, love is everywhere!

Jesus said this to His disciples before His death on the cross. His followers, His disciples were told to love others just like Jesus loved them. We know how much Jesus loved them and us, He died on the cross to save all of us.

Jesus didn’t say like everyone, because as humans we just don’t like everyone. There are some people we just don’t get along with. So if we don’t like them, how do we love them!? We love them like Jesus did. He talked to people that others wouldn’t. He healed people that most would just have walked right by. He talked to people that others were afraid to talk to. He asked that young children come to Him. He saw everyone as a wonderful and unique creation of God. And Jesus loved them.

How to Love Like Jesus

When the new kid in your class is eating alone, walk over and join him for lunch.

When your mom is feeling sad, bring her your best hug, some wildflowers in a bunch.

When a bully teases you to make you mad, give him a smile instead of a punch.

When your dad is tired from his day at work, make him a snack you both can munch.

When someone comes to you who is different, start talking and see what you share.

When a neighbor needs help with a chore, do your best and show that you care.

When a friend is sick and feeling bad, visit them if you can and say a special prayer.

When someone is worried and afraid, share love like Jesus and just be there.

Loving others like Jesus is not always easy. We have to choose to love and make the effort to be kind and helpful and friendly, showing others we love and care about them.

This week, try to see people as God’s wonderful creations. Each unique and loved by Jesus. How can you love like Jesus?  Pick one person and do something special for them. Or choose someone you have trouble liking and do the unexpected. Talk with your parents and decide how to show love like Jesus this week.

Blessings as you love like Jesus!
