“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” III John 4:11 NKJV
You are God’s beloved child. Beloved means to be loved very much. In this Bible verse, John (one of the disciples of Jesus) is praying for our health and our soul. A perfect prayer for these difficult times. Waiting to see if and when it is safe for school to start, safe for your parents to go back to work, safe for you to actually play with your friends. But even now, I want you to know that above all of the problems, you are beloved by God.
How do we know? He tells us many times, over and over, in the Bible. But one of my favorite stories is when Jesus calls the children to Himself. A long time ago, when Jesus lived, children were sometimes considered less important than adults. Did you know that when Jesus fed the five thousand (one of His coolest miracles!), that they didn’t even count women and children, just the men? That means that if all of the men had a wife and just one child, Jesus really fed 15,000 people with two fishes and five loaves!!
Now back to the story of Jesus and the children. Moms and Dads were bringing their children to Jesus when He was teaching in the temple. They wanted Jesus to place His hands on the children and bless them. But the disciples told the parents to stop and not bother Jesus with their children. But when Jesus heard the disciples He was upset with them. He said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:14b NIV Jesus loved the children and wanted them to come to Him. Jesus wanted the children to be with Him and be blessed. And Jesus loves you today. You are His beloved.
God and Jesus are our examples of love. God loves us so much He sent Jesus to save us. Jesus loves us so much that He suffered on the cross and died and rose so that we might have life. John tells us, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” I John 4:16 NIV
This week, know that you are God’s beloved. He loves you no matter what you’ve done or where you come from or who other people say you are. God and Jesus love you and forgive you and accept you just as you are. They created you and you are Their beloved. Be confident and strong in being God’s beloved!
But also this week, because you are God’s beloved, don’t forget to share His love with others. Choose one thing to show God’s and Jesus’ love to someone else. Mail a card, draw a picture, call someone, or do something to help in your own family. Share God’s wonderful love and let someone else know that they are also God’s beloved.
Love and blessings as you share God’s love!
