“Live as children of the light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.” Ephesians 5:8b-10 NIV

The leaves are just starting to change color. I can see God in His design of the seasons!

When you were really young, you wanted to do things that you liked to do. You wanted to please yourself; like getting a toy or a piece of candy. You made yourself happy. Sometimes now you choose to do things to please other people; like doing a chore for your mom or getting a tool for your dad. They are happy when we do something for them. But did you know that you have the power to please God? Our God, who created the entire world and loves each of us, is pleased by things you do!

The Apostle Paul tells us in the above verse that we are to find out what pleases the Lord and to do them.

When we study the Bible, God’s Word, we find the things that we can do to please God. In Matthew 22:37, Jesus tells us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

So the very first thing you can do to please God is to love Him. Notice that “love” is an action or doing word. All of the things we can do to please God are actions.

Pleasing God by Doing!

Loving God with all your heart,

Loving others, God’s love to impart.

Praising God for all He has done,

Thanking God for each day as it’s begun.

Helping others to know God’s big grace,

Shining God’s love in every place.

Singing a song to your God of light,

Praying to God in bed each night.

This week talk to your parents about how you can please God. Together, can you come up with some other ways to please our awesome God? Draw a picture of the action word you like best for pleasing God and then share your drawing with someone.
