Becoming Like Jesus – Faithfulness

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”          Galatians 5:22-23

Faithfulness (2)

God’s faithfulness to us is exhibited in His wonderful created world and His creation of us!

This week we are going to talk about the seventh “fruit of the spirit” – faithfulness. Remember that the fruits of the spirit are character traits that help us to become more like Jesus. Jesus had perfect faith; it’s how He fed over 5000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, it’s how He healed the blind and sick, it’s how He calmed the storm on the sea. Jesus even said that if we had enough faith, we could move a mountain.

I want to give you a very simple example of faith. Get a chair, look at it. Do you believe that the chair is for sitting on? And will hold you up? Yes, with your mind you believe it is true. Next, do you trust the chair to hold you? Yes, then sit down. Now, put the chair behind you and face front. You can’t see it. Do you have faith to sit down in the chair without looking? Yes, sit down! Faith is having full trust in something (or someone) even when you can’t see it.

Now, let’s look at faith in God. The first step is to believe with your mind that God and Jesus are real and that the Bible stories about Them are true. Next is to trust that They will save you and take care of you. The last step is to have faith that They will keep Their promises to you. One of my favorite promises for us in the Bible is; “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Our faith grows slowly over time, as we begin to see and appreciate all the wonderful things that God and Jesus have done for us or given to us. We can’t see God or Jesus, but we can see how They have helped us and worked for good in our lives. And as They help us more, we have more faith.

Faith to Become Like Jesus

Finding all the ways God and Jesus are good to me.

Always thanking God and Jesus for all They have done for me.

Investigating all the promises of God and Jesus for me.

Trusting God and Jesus to take care of me and love me.

Having faith that all things will work out for good for me.

This week start growing your faith by asking your parents to help you make a list of all the things God and Jesus have done for you. (Like giving you great parents. I’m sure your parents would put you on their list!) Then, be sure to thank God for all the wonderful things He’s done.

I pray for all of us to have stronger faith in God and Jesus! And, all of you are on my list of the wonderful things God and Jesus have done for me!! Blessings to you.
