Becoming Like Jesus – Kindness

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”          Galatians 5:22-23

Fruit - Kindness

This week we are going to talk about the fifth “fruit of the spirit” – kindness. Remember that the fruits of the spirit are character traits that help us to become more like Jesus. Kindness is more than just being nice to people. Kindness is something you do for someone who needs help.

Jesus showed kindness throughout His ministry. He wasn’t just nice to people, Jesus loved and listened to the needs of people and did things to help them. There are lots of stories in the New Testament about how Jesus healed people who were blind or were sick or couldn’t walk. He fed the people when they were hungry. Remember the story of how Jesus fed over 5000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes? Jesus loved people and showed this in many acts of kindness.

Kindness is love in action. Kindness is something you can do for someone else. We might not be able to heal people or perform other miracles like Jesus (He was God’s Son!) but we can still perform acts of kindness for the people around us that need help. And Jesus tells us in Matthew 25 that when we do something kind for others, it is just like doing something kind for Jesus.

Showing Kindness Like Jesus

This week pick someone to share God’s love with a kind deed.

Anyone you know, just make sure your parents have agreed.

Talk about your plan with your parents and decide how to start.

A card, a chore, a visit, a meal, whatever touches your heart.

Put your thoughtful plan into action with kindness and love,

And everyone will feel God’s love coming down from above!

Afterwards, draw a picture or write a short story about your kindness. Ask your parents to share your picture or story by email or Facebook messenger (for the Kids Gallery page) so that everyone can learn how to show kindness like Jesus.

If you really enjoyed your kind deed, pick someone different for next week and make another plan! God’s lovingkindness and blessings to you!

R.E. and Traveler are waiting for a kind person to throw their toy! RE and Traveler

They are also waiting to see how you chose to be kind this week!
