Remembering God at Christmas

“I will remember the works of the Lord; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all Your work, And talk of your deeds.” Psalms 77:11-12

We are getting ready for Christmas. It is a marvelous celebration of God’s greatest gift to the world, His Son, Jesus. Christmas is Jesus’ birthday! Each year we remember God and thank Him for this gift He gave to us.

But these days, Christmas seems to be more about presents, things to buy or things we want to get. About the best decorations and trees to put up. About Santas asking what you want. About the latest toy or game or newest thing that is popular. We seem to forget that we celebrate Christmas because of God’s love for us and His gift.

The Bible verse above tells us that we are to remember all the amazing works that God has done for us. We are to remember the wonders He has done and think about them. And then we are to tell others about them so that they can see how awesomely God has worked in our lives.

This year instead of making a list of things we want for Christmas, let’s make a list of the things that God has done for us. What great thing has God done for you or someone in your family? Has He helped you with a problem? Has He given you someone who loves you? Has He given you wise people to teach you? Has He healed someone who was ill? Has He given you friends you love?

My Christmas List

  1. Thank you, God, for Baby Jesus, who came from heaven, down to the manger.
  2. Thank You, God, for keeping our house safe when the icy trees were a danger.
  3. Thank You, God, for my grandmother who told me stories from Your Word.
  4. Thank You, God, for my smiling mom who loved me and sang like a bird.
  5. Thank You, God, for my smart dad who helped me figure out answers in math.
  6. Thank You, God, for all You do for me that keeps me on Your chosen path.

This week make your own “Christmas list” to remember all the special things that God has done for you. Your parents can help you think of all of God’s wonderful works, but don’t forget to tell someone else about God’s “deeds” in your life.

If you want to share your list on the Kids Gallery page, ask your parents to send your list by email or Facebook messenger. Then everyone can celebrate God and Christmas by “remembering” all the great things He has done for each of us.
