“By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He had rested from all the work of creating that He had done.” Genesis 2: 2-3 NIV
A beautiful way to start our day of rest on Sundays!
After God created the whole, entire world in 6 days, He decided that the 7th day was a day of rest. He blessed that day and made it holy, which means “dedicated to God”. One of the 10 commandments that God gave us is to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. For many of us, Sunday is our day of rest, our holy day. Many of us go to church on Sundays.
One of my favorite ways to spend Sundays is outside in the “big church” of God’s creation. I can look at all of the wonderful things in creation and think about God and Him making each unique one. I love to look at leaves, each one so different. I used to love to make crayon rubbings and hang them up in my room, so that I always could think about God’s work.
After writing about the crayon rubbings I used to make…I had fun on Sunday creating one with four different leaves!
I also think God has a wonderful imagination! Just look at some of the unusual animals in God’s creation.
A giraffe, his neck is so tall and perfect for reaching the very best trees.
A turtle, designed with his home on his back to take it where he pleases.
An ostrich, a bird with a long neck and long legs, built for running not flying.
A whale, so huge and long and swims so beautifully without even trying.
A jelly fish, his clear umbrella body with long tentacles that can sting.
A porcupine, covered in sharp pointy quills to protect himself from anything.
What are some of your favorite animals? What are some of your favorite parts of God’s amazing creation?
This Sunday go outside into “big church” and discover God in His marvelous creation. Make a leaf rubbing or draw a picture of something you found in God’s created world.
Afterwards ask your parents to post your drawing or rubbing as a reply to this blog so that everyone can learn to enjoy God’s day of rest.
RE and Traveler really enjoy their Sundays at the pond!
