“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalms 46:10 NKJV
Sitting still is one of the hardest things adults ask you to do. So many places to go, so many things to do, so many games to play, so many friends to talk to, and on and on. Making your mind be still is even harder!! So many thoughts are bouncing around inside your head.
But sometimes, the Bible asks us to quiet our minds and look for God. We can’t see God, so how do we look for Him?? God is all around us if we just look for the evidence of Him! We can look for God in the beauty and colors of a flower. We can look for God in the jagged layers of a rock. We can look for God in the smile of a new friend we met at school. God created it all!
I sit still, quiet, beside the creek.
Looking for God, maybe just a peek!
The water splashes, the sunlight shines,
God made it all, beneath tall pines!
I see God’s work in the world around,
From bright, blue sky to green, grassy ground.
A small, speckled frog sees me and JUMPS!
I laugh, and he hides behind a stump.
A cricket chirps a “How do you do?”
I bend down and say, “Wonderful! You?”
I did find God at my creek-side place!
All creation sings of God’s holy grace!
Activity: Try to still your mind this week and look for God in the world around you! What do you see that reminds you God is near? Is it Mom singing you a song, Dad playing basketball with you, a perfect tree for climbing, or a friend who is laughing with you?! Draw a picture where you looked for God!
Afterwards, ask your parents to share your picture of where you found God as a reply to this blog so that others can find God, too.
