Be Strong!

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. I Corinthians 15:58 NLT

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things. Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

“Be strong” and its variations are used about 20 times in the Bible. Standing strong on our faith has never been more paramount than now; the wars, the political unrest, the protests, the uncertainty, the worries, and the divisiveness.

But what does “being strong” look like? Does it mean getting up on my soap box and condemning the world? Does it mean I stay at home and avoid the problems? Or does it mean I try to live my life like Jesus? He lived in the world – the low places, the high places, the everyday places – but wherever He was, He lived the truth. Jesus demonstrated the fruits of the Spirit for us.

Jesus loved people, not ideas, not labels, not affiliations, He loved each person.

Jesus was kind and good with those He interacted with, treating them with respect and dignity.

Jesus was gentle even in admonishment, considerate of people’s frailties, yet speaking truth.

Jesus was patient with others as He explained and lived the word of God.

Jesus is what being strong looks like and is our illustration and standard for our conduct.

Jesus is a hard act to follow…but is our ultimate role model for being strong in our faith.

This week be strong. Jesus says, “Stand firm, and you will win life.” Luke 21:19 NIV Our “work” this week is to be strong in our faith as we deal with all that life throws at us. Let’s pull out all the stops. Let’s love others. Let’s be gentle and patient. Let’s show kindness and goodness even to those who may be unkind. Let’s share our joy and peace in the Lord. Let’s live out our faith and change those around us. Let’s win life!

I thank God for each of you! And I thank you for joining me this week as together we strive to be strong and faithful.

Blessings and courage and strength!
